Volunteering

Many different people volunteer with firsthand.
Some work as volunteer sitters, and provide around a thousand sits a year.
Another way of becoming involved as a volunteer sitter is through Care in Pairs which supports people who may not feel confident to volunteer on their own by matching them into a pair and they will sit for a family together.
Some act as befrienders for young disabled people – all the befrienders are volunteers, so the Befriending Service would not exist without them.
The firsthand Management Committee are all volunteers, and they take responsibility for running the work of the organisation.
firsthand always needs people who are willing to help with funding, with the fundraising events we organise from time to time, or by raising sponsorship money for us in other events.
Some volunteers work in the office, doing several essential clerical and administrative tasks and providing IT support. If you have skills to offer, please phone us on 0131 557 3121 or email us.
