Volunteering as a Sitter
“I’d never have believed giving a few hours a week could make such a difference to someone’s life (including my own!)”
Volunteers are needed for the Sitter Service, to look after children in the family home, for up to four hours at a time. The children benefit from talk and activity with another adult – you! Meanwhile the parent(s) have a few hours of much needed space and time.
Your job is to care for the children, ensuring their safety and wellbeing. You might play games, watch TV, put a younger child to bed.
You need to have an interest in spending time with children; and a friendly and caring approach; and to be accepting of different family lifestyles. You will be matched with a family according to your skills and experience.
We ask all our volunteer sitters to make a year’s commitment, sitting for a family weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on their needs and the time you have to offer. Before you meet the family, you will have five training sessions. You will have to provide two referees, and have a disclosure check.
